Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland in 1865 and Alice Through the Looking Glass in 1871. And since Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz in 1900, it would seem to me that his insiration would have been AIW. Very similar are the stories of Harry Potter. Many inspirations are familiar in the HP stories. And since Rollings was telling her children bedtime stories, I think her characters and stories can be traced to stories with which she had grown up. In any case, all the stories are wonderful. But the classic still remains the original - thank you Lewis Carroll. Having just watched the new version of Alice in Wonderland, it struck me how similar these two stories are - at least in the movies.

Just how Alice saw people that were in her dream...hope that makes some seance. I'm not sure what it was that first made me think of the connection between the two. Maybe it was seeing the scene where Dorothy is caught up in the tornado and watches things and people go by.
